An ancient and historical legend: Lucifer, the angel of Evil, expelled from Heaven, managed to steal a strip of it and bring it with him on Earth, so forming the Gulf of Naples. Pained by this loss, Jesus Christ began to cry, shedding tears upon Mount Vesuvius, and from these sweet tears blossomed the grapevines and grapes of a heavenly taste: Lacryma Christi. Vesuvian wine has ancient origins: a trail filled with aromas and beliefs, all played around a new Nectarof the Gods.
The ancient rulers of the world developed to the full potential the wineries of the volcano’s land, planting the grapevine variety called Vesuvio, which gave life to theLacryma Christi.
The unmistakable uniqueness of the Vesuvian wines and of everything that is cultivated on the Vesuvius is thanksto its exceptional volcanic soil.
The complexity of volcanic soil can be found in the composition of the ground and type of vegetation that grows in the area and that is different depending on the side due to the incidence of the lava accumulated during the eruption. All the company’s vineyards are located on the south-west side, where numerous lava flows that reached the sea have enriched the soil with minerals, lapilli and made it extremely fertile with high porosity and drainage.
This represents a first line of defense against pathogens and, in particular, ensures the authentic preservation of ungrafted vineyards.
Nature gives its fruits … We interpret and preserve its potential
If the environment and the earth are respected, it is possible to obtain healthy products that are processed without upsetting their potential but
rather to enhance it. This basic concept led the company to cultivatethe vineyards organically. The purpose of organic cultivation is not that to upset or to restore the balance of nature, but to preserve it and respect it. This is done by exploiting increasingly limited quantities of resources and increasingly restricting the impact on them. This favors the spontaneous microflora which by growing in a constant and uniform manner can control the growth and development of antagonistic species.
We have introduced the field bean, a species known for the important accumulation of nitrogen which is essential for propagation/budding of the vine and which is, in fact, fed to the vineyard through green manure or by interring the field bean in the spring.no in primavera.
The raw material of our production lines
The wine-making enhancement projects, combined with the extraordinary and unique properties of the Vesuvian volcanic soil, are the native varieties that are cultivated: Caprettone, Falanghina, Catalanesca, Piedirosso and Aglianico are grown according to their specific needs and characteristics in the 35 hectares belonging to the company.
The accurate selection and specialization of the gra-pe cultivation sites, the terraces and the orientation ofthe vine rows the pruning systems and breeding specific for each variety and type of wine to be produced, result in balanced yields for each type of wine, leading to high-quality raw material, an expression of the impeccable work carried out in the cellar and the refining periods that create a complex andharmonious Vesuvian wine even when it is not a vintage wine.
